Exploring Computer Science Syllabus

Course Description

Exploring Computer Science is a yearlong course consisting of 6 units, approximately 5-6 weeks each. The course was developed around a framework of both computer science content and computational practice. Assignments and instruction are contextualized to be socially relevant and meaningful for diverse students. Units utilize a variety of tools/platforms, and culminate with final projects around the following topics:

Unit 1:Human Computer Interaction
Unit 2:Problem Solving
Unit 3:Web Design
Unit 4:Introduction to Programming
Unit 5:Computing and Data Analysis
Unit 6:Robotics

 

Participation:

20 percent of the student's grade is based on participation. Participation in class is based on several factors depending on the subject. Students are considered non-participants if they are engaged in any of the following during class time:

  1. Using cell phones
  2. Talking
  3. Sleeping
  4. Using head phones
  5. Doing homework from other classes
  6. Being tardy to short quizzes given at the beginning of the period

Grading:

Per LUHSD Administrative Regulation AR5121 grades for achievement shall be reported each marking period as
follows:

The Final grade for the class will be the average of Quarter 1 and Quarter 2.
